Frigidaire Dishwasher I10 Error Code: Meaning, Causes & Fix

Frigidaire Dishwasher display showing i10 — FixCode Guide error code graphic

Fill error — the dishwasher is not filling with water in the expected time (low/no water inlet).

i10 is Frigidaire's fill code: the valve opened (or should have) and the level didn't arrive. Supply, the inlet valve and its screen, and the float switch veto are the chain — the same fill trio as every brand, in Frigidaire's i-code dialect. Frigidaire's owner's guides define i10 in the manufacturer's own words: 'A low fill has been detected', with the printed solution 'Look for a pinched water supply line, or water shutoff is not completely opened.' Two things in that short row deserve more attention than they usually get. First, Frigidaire's verb is detected: the machine is reporting a measured shortfall — the fill phase ended with less water than the control expected — not naming a broken part. Both of Frigidaire's printed causes are supply-side conditions, not component failures: a line physically pinched (the classic aftermath of the machine being pushed back into its cabinet run), and a shutoff valve left partly closed (the classic aftermath of under-sink plumbing work, when the valve gets reopened by feel rather than to its stop). Second, i10 sits at the head of the i-code family the same guides print: i20/i40/iF0 for clogged filters or a restricted drain line, i30 for a leak or overflow in the bottom pan, i50 for the drain or wash motor, i60 for the water heating system, iC0 for the electronic control. The family's logic is a chain — fill (i10), drain (i20 group), containment (i30), motors (i50), heat (i60), control (iC0) — and i10 is its first link, which is why Frigidaire's remedy for it is a look under the sink rather than a part.

Applies to: Frigidaire dishwashers.
Safety first. Before you start: unplug the appliance (or switch off its breaker) before opening any panel, and close the water taps before disconnecting hoses. Trip the breaker before removing the base access panel, and shut the water valve off before disconnecting the supply line.

What causes the i10 code on a Frigidaire dishwasher?

Supply off/restricted

Under-sink tap, kinked hose, low pressure.

Float switch stuck up

Debris under the float vetoes filling.

Valve screen clogged / valve failed

Sediment or a dead solenoid.

Household pressure sag at busy times (Frigidaire's own performance note)

Frigidaire's guides' Factors Affecting Performance section warns that low water pressure may occur when laundry or showers are in operation, and that poor performance at those times is a reason to wait until water use is reduced. A dishwasher that fills happily at noon and throws i10 at bath-time is living in that footnote: the supply passes the fill test only when the house is not competing for it.

A shutoff opened to 'about right' after plumbing work

Frigidaire names the shutoff explicitly, and the common version is not a closed valve — the machine would never fill at all — but a valve reopened partway after a faucet, filter or disposer job. The fill then runs slowly enough to miss the control's window while still sounding normal at the machine. Turning the valve fully to its open stop is a ten-second test that condemns or acquits this cause outright.

Sediment in the inlet path after water-main work

The guides' printed pair (pinch, shutoff) are the owner-level causes; the service-level extension of the same idea is restriction at the inlet valve's screen, most often after the street main or the home's own plumbing has been disturbed and grit travels to the first fine screen it meets. It presents exactly like Frigidaire's pair — a slow fill — and separates from them only when the line is proven unpinched and the valve proven fully open.

Checks to run before you replace anything

  1. Tap open; float moves freely; listen for fill at start; screen inspection.
  2. Work Frigidaire's printed solution in its printed order, because it is ordered by likelihood: first trace the water supply line along its whole run for a pinch or kink (behind the machine and under the sink are the two pinch points), then put a hand on the shutoff and turn it fully open to its stop — not to where it was, to the stop.
  3. Time the fill against the house: if i10 appears, note what else was using water. Run the same cycle later with nothing else drawing and compare. A code that tracks showers and laundry is the pressure-sag cause from Frigidaire's own performance section, and no part on the dishwasher fixes a house-side pattern.
  4. Listen at cycle start: a healthy fill is audible for a sustained interval. A fill that starts and stops almost immediately, or a valve hum with little water noise, separates 'water is not arriving' from 'water arrives but is not registered' — the second pattern moves the float switch and the valve up the list. And know the band Frigidaire's guides work to: incoming water about 120°F (49°C), pressure 20 to 120 psi — a fill problem on a supply outside the manufacturer's own published band is a supply problem by definition.

How to fix the i10 error code

  1. Free the float; restore supply; clean screen; replace a dead valve.
  2. Clear Frigidaire's two printed causes completely before buying anything: straighten or re-route a pinched supply line (replace it if the pinch has creased it — a creased line restricts even straightened), and open the shutoff fully. Then cancel the cycle and restart; i10 clears on the first fill that arrives in full and on time.
  3. Use Frigidaire's printed reset correctly: the guides' footnote for all error codes is pressing the cancel button, or turning power off at the breaker for 5 minutes — and if neither resolves the problem, contact the Frigidaire Customer Care Center. The reset restarts the unit; it does not widen the fill window, so a reset that 'works' only until the next busy-water evening has told you the cause is the sag, not the software.

The part that usually fails: Inlet valve (after float + supply)

Float first — it's free and it's a genuine i10 cause.

How to reset / clear the i10 code

Cancel, fix, restart; i10 clears on a normal fill.

Frigidaire's i-series codes clear with a power reset: switch the breaker off for at least 5 minutes, restore power, and run a cycle. Leak code i30 is the exception in practice — it will not stay cleared while water remains in the base pan, because the float switch is still physically lifted.

Why does the i10 code keep coming back?

Intermittent i10 tracks a float sticking when greasy, or pressure sag at busy times. i10's returns keep the supply's diary. Returns after any under-sink work are the shutoff or a re-pinched line until proven otherwise — the machine was fine until the cabinet was disturbed. Returns at predictable times of day are the pressure sag, and the fix is scheduling or supply, never the valve. The return that changes the diagnosis is i10 arriving with the line proven straight, the shutoff proven fully open, and the house quiet: that combination acquits Frigidaire's printed causes and promotes the inlet screen, the float switch and the valve itself — the service-level chain from the base entry — from suspects to appointments.

Can you still use the dishwasher with i10 showing? No — don't run a dry dishwasher.

How to stop i10 coming back

When to call a pro. Proven path + new valve + i10 persists = control diagnosis.

Retrieving stored fault codes on Frigidaire dishwashers

Frigidaire dishwashers include a diagnostic/water test cycle (entered by holding specific pad combinations — on many Gallery models, holding Power Scrub/Start combinations; the service data sheet behind the toe-kick gives the exact pair) that fills, washes, heats and drains in a compressed sequence and shows any i-code that the control logs.

CLClose dishwasher door prompt (rendering used on GLD/FDB-series manuals; same instruction as Cd on other models)Close the dishwasher door and latch it fully; ensuring the door is properly latched clears the display and no service is needed
CdClose dishwasher door prompt (rendering used on FGHD-series manuals; same instruction as CL on other models)Close the dishwasher door and latch it fully; the status lights flash to show cycle status until it is latched
E20Platform-rendering variant of the drain fault on some Frigidaire/Electrolux platforms (E20 = drain system in those charts) — the i20 playbook applies.Clean/clear the chain; service or replace the pump as found.
E30Platform-rendering variant in the drain family on some Frigidaire/Electrolux platforms (E30-style codes appear in the drain/leak monitoring area by platform); diagnose with the i20/i30 playbooks by symptom.Drain branch: clean filter, clear path, service pump. Flood branch: dry base, find and fix the leak.
ER'Er' on a Frigidaire dishwasher = switch failure (shorted keypad). Frigidaire's Service Data Sheet (Electrolux Home Products North America, P/N 808463501) lists display code Er exactly that way, and Electrolux's service manual for these dishwashers defines the underlying fault as a membrane switch failure: the control has verified that a pad on the membrane switch has been closed for one minute.Follow Frigidaire's documented order: check the connection from the keypad to the main control board; if the connection is correct, replace the keypad; if the error still exists after that, replace the main control board.
HOWater heat delay; the display flashes while the cycle waits for the water to heatNo action is needed; washing continues automatically once the water reaches temperature
HdWater heat delay (older-model rendering of HO)No action is needed; washing continues automatically once the water reaches temperature
LORinse aid dispenser is low and needs to be refilledRefill the rinse aid dispenser; the indication stays through up to 5 cycles or until the reservoir is filled
PFPower failure notice; appears when the dishwasher is first installed or when power has been interruptedTouch the START/CANCEL pad to clear it; on newer models press Start within 18 hours of a hard failure to resume at the interruption point
UFVent fan speed fault — the drying vent fan's RPM is too low or the fan has stopped (Frigidaire service code uF; companion codes: uo = vent stuck open, uC = vent stuck closed)Check the vent fan and its wiring in the vent assembly (top right rear of the tub); per the Frigidaire service sheet the repair sequence is wiring, then the vent assembly, then the main control
UOVent stuck open — Frigidaire's Service Data Sheet (Electrolux Home Products North America, P/N 808463501) lists display code Uo as 'Vent stuck open', with siblings uC 'Vent stuck closed' and uF 'Vent rpm too low or stopped'.Clear any blockage or deposits from the vent so the damper can close fully.
i20Drain error — the dishwasher is draining too slowly or not at all (i20 family; iF0/iE0 siblings cover related drain/filter states by model).Clean/clear the path; clear pump debris or replace a dead pump (continuity test).
i30Leak/flood error — water detected in the base (anti-flood system active); the dishwasher may drain continuously.Repair the leak found; correct detergent if suds were the cause.
i40Clogged filters or a restricted drain line has been detected (grouped with i20 and iF0)Check and clean both filters and the sump area and check for a pinched or blocked drain hose; if the drain line is attached to a disposer, check that the knockout plug has been removed

Codes i10 gets confused with

i30 — Leak/flood error — water detected in the base (anti-flood system active); the dishwasher may drain continuously. i30 is Frigidaire's (Electrolux-platform) flood code: the base float/ sensor found water, so the machine stops filling, often runs the drain pump continuously, and refuses cycles.

ER — 'Er' on a Frigidaire dishwasher = switch failure (shorted keypad). Frigidaire's Service Data Sheet (Electrolux Home Products North America, P/N 808463501) lists display code Er exactly that way, and Electrolux's service manual for these dishwashers defines the underlying fault as a membrane switch failure: the control has verified that a pad on the membrane switch has been closed for one minute. Er belongs to Frigidaire's letter-code generation.

i20 — Drain error — the dishwasher is draining too slowly or not at all (i20 family; iF0/iE0 siblings cover related drain/filter states by model). i20 means the drain phase timed out: water is leaving too slowly or not at all.

UO — Vent stuck open — Frigidaire's Service Data Sheet (Electrolux Home Products North America, P/N 808463501) lists display code Uo as 'Vent stuck open', with siblings uC 'Vent stuck closed' and uF 'Vent rpm too low or stopped'. UO belongs to Frigidaire's letter-code generation.

Frequently asked questions

Is i10 like GE's H2O?

Yes — same fill fault, Frigidaire's i-code rendering.

What does i10 mean in Frigidaire's own manual?

Verbatim: 'A low fill has been detected', and the manual's solution is 'Look for a pinched water supply line, or water shutoff is not completely opened.' Frigidaire files i10 as a supply condition the machine detected, not a component failure — which is why the manual sends you under the sink before it sends you to service.

i10 only happens in the evening. Is the dishwasher failing?

That pattern is Frigidaire's own documented footnote, not a coincidence: the guides' Factors Affecting Performance section says low water pressure may occur when laundry or showers are in operation. An i10 that keeps office hours with the household's water use is a pressure sag reaching the fill window. Shifting the dishwasher's run to a low-demand time is the manufacturer's implied remedy; a booster or plumbing fix is a house decision, not a dishwasher part.

Is i10 the same as i20?

No — they are opposite ends of the water's journey, and Frigidaire's table keeps them apart. i10 is the fill: a low fill detected, supply-side causes. i20 (grouped with i40 and iF0 in the same table) is the drain side: clogged filters or a restricted drain line detected, with the guides' remedy of cleaning both filters and the sump area and checking for a pinched or blocked drain hose. A machine can earn both across a bad week, but each code is fixed in its own territory.
